Terms of service
Last updated: October 25, 2026
These terms are the rules for using unintendedpuns.com (the “site”), run by Unintended Puns (“we”, “us”). They’re written to be readable, but they are a real agreement between you and us, so please read them.
Agreeing to these terms
By using the site, submitting a pun or reacting to one, you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
Who can use the site
You must be 13 or older to submit a pun, react to one or sign up for email. If you’re under 18, you need a parent or guardian’s permission, and they agree to these terms for you.
There are no user accounts. Anyone can read the site; submitting and reacting don’t require signing up.
Using the site
You’re welcome to read, react to and share the puns on the site for your own, non-commercial enjoyment. Sharing links and the site’s share cards is encouraged. Please don’t:
- break the law or anyone else’s rights using the site;
- use bots, scripts or multiple browsers to submit puns, react, or inflate votes (search engines and link previews are fine);
- copy the site’s content in bulk, or republish it commercially, without our permission;
- try to get into the review queue or any part of the site that isn’t meant for you, or probe it for weaknesses;
- overload, disrupt or interfere with the site, or upload anything harmful, like malware;
- use the site to send spam, or pretend to be someone you’re not.
Submitting puns
The house rules
Every submission has to follow the house rules:
- It has to be an accident. Something someone actually said without meaning the pun, written down as accurately as you remember it. Don’t invent quotes.
- No full names of private people, and nothing else that would let a stranger identify them, like an exact workplace or address. Public figures saying something in public are fair game.
- Nothing cruel, hateful, harassing, sexual or meant to embarrass someone.
- Kids’ puns are welcome; kids’ names are not.
- Don’t submit anything you don’t have the right to share, such as material copied from a book, show or another website.
What you’re promising
When you submit, you confirm that the submission follows the house rules, that it’s true to the best of your knowledge, and that publishing it won’t break any law or anyone’s rights. Any “Caught by” name you give must be yours, not someone else’s.
Permission to publish
You keep whatever rights you have in your submission. By submitting, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to publish, display and share it on the site and in our own channels, such as share cards, social media posts and the newsletter, and to edit it as described below. We can let our service providers handle it only to run the site for us. You can ask us to take your submission down at any time (see Review and removal); after that we’ll stop using it, though copies other people already shared are outside our control.
Reactions and votes
Groans, “I missed it” and the accidental-or-suspicious votes are for fun. They aren’t a judgment of whether anyone really said something. One reaction per browser, and no manipulating the counts.
Review and removal
A person reviews every submission before it goes live. We decide what gets published, and we don’t have to publish anything or explain why we didn’t. To keep the site readable and within the house rules, we may edit a submission before or after publishing it: for example, fixing typos, changing which words are highlighted, removing identifying details from the context, or writing or editing the explanation. We may also use automated tools, including AI, to help us review.
We can remove any pun at any time, for any reason. If you submitted a pun and want it removed, email hello@unintendedpuns.com with the link. Removed content may stay in our backups for a short time before it’s deleted.
Our stuff
The site’s name, logo, design, code and the text we write (like these pages and the share-card designs) belong to Unintended Puns. Please don’t use our name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse you or your product.
If you send us feedback or ideas, we can use them without owing you anything. Thank you in advance.
Complaints and takedowns
If a pun mentions or identifies you, breaks the house rules, or uses something you own the rights to, email hello@unintendedpuns.com with the link and a short explanation. For a copyright complaint, include a description of your work, where it appears on the site, and your contact details. We’ll review every request and remove content where it’s appropriate.
Links to other sites
The site may link to other websites. We don’t control them and aren’t responsible for their content or how they handle your information.
Disclaimers
The puns on the site are submitted by visitors. We review them, but we can’t verify that anyone really said what’s quoted, and a pun appearing here isn’t a statement of fact by us about anyone.
The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
We don’t promise the site will always be available, error-free or secure, or that any content is accurate. Some places don’t allow these exclusions, so some of them may not apply to you.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Unintended Puns and the people who run it will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of the site or anything posted on it, including what other visitors submit.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the site or these terms is limited to US $100.
The site is free. Some places don’t allow these limits, so some of them may not apply to you; in that case our liability is limited as far as the law allows.
Indemnification
If someone makes a claim against us because of something you submitted or because you broke these terms or the law, you agree to cover the reasonable costs that result, including legal fees, to the extent the law allows.
Disputes
If you have a problem with the site, please email hello@unintendedpuns.com first. Most things can be sorted out quickly, and we’ll try to resolve it within 30 days.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Louisiana, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that can’t be resolved informally will be handled only in the state or federal courts located in Louisiana, and you and we both agree to their jurisdiction. Either of us may still bring a claim in small-claims court if it qualifies.
Ending access
You can stop using the site at any time. We may block submissions or reactions from anyone who breaks these terms, or suspend or shut down the site, at any time and without notice. The sections on permission to publish, our stuff, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification and disputes continue to apply after that.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top, and for significant changes we’ll say so on the site. If you keep using the site after a change, you’re agreeing to the updated terms.
The fine print
- These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the site.
- If any part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If we don’t enforce something right away, we haven’t given up the right to enforce it later.
- You can’t transfer your rights under these terms to someone else. We can, for example if the site changes owners.
- We’re not responsible for delays or failures caused by things outside our reasonable control.
